Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to visit Retrofitted Spoils. I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you more about me and this wonderful journey I’ve been blessed to experience.
My name is Mandi. I am the partner to a loving and wonderful man who has encouraged me to embrace and follow my dreams. I am also the mother to two amazing children. I love being able demonstrate to them that you can find treasures in things that are lost and forgotten. In a world engulfed in consumerism, I love being able to salvage a discarded object and turn it into a coveted piece of art work without spending a fortune.
Stepping Back in Time
As a young adult, I became enamored with the aesthetics of the world around me; the silhouette of foliage or the rustic patina of a small roadside barn. The tiny details others overlooked would light up my heart within a matter of seconds. They still do to this day.
This adventure began as a creative outlet and it continued to grow. Secretly, I loved the time it afforded me to spend with my dad and son as we began looking for items on “trash day.” To my son, this was a treasure hunt to find something for his mommy to paint. To my dad, it provided the opportunity to impart his wealth of knowledge in handiwork. Over time, we coined the name “Sanford and Daughter.” Looking back, it was those first and candid moments that sparked an ember to make this passion a reality.
I have, over time, developed a serious case of tunnel vision when I’m passing a heap of furniture earmarked for the landfill. When an item catches my eye, I take it home and begin the process of transforming. My desire not only resides in furniture, but in everyday household items. I find myself utilizing toys from my children’s toy box to use as an embellishment or reupholstering a table chair with a skirt I discovered at the thrift store with a brilliant pattern. The possibilities are truly endless.
My goal for Retrofitted Spoils continues to be a place that offers distinctive and custom pieces as well as developing a blog to chronicle my undertakings. I would love nothing more than to take you on this journey with me.
In conclusion, saddle up your horses we’ve got a trail to blaze.
